CROWNS

A crown is a restoration that covers, or caps, a tooth to restore the tooth to its normal shape and size. A crown also gives strength to a tooth, and following treatment, it protects a decay-damaged tooth from fracture.

It is an excellent solution for repairing teeth that are badly damaged or decayed. The dentists at Tyler Dental Artz are skilled at placing porcelain, gold and ceramic dental crowns with artistry and precision in to order to provide natural-looking and durable results.

What Type of Dental Crowns Do You Offer?

Our practice offers 3 different types of dental crowns in order to tailor treatments to each patient’s individual needs and goals: gold, all-ceramic and porcelain fused to metal.

Gold crowns are durable, strong and ideal for providing support to the back teeth for biting and chewing.

All-ceramic crowns are made of a translucent material that matches the colour of natural tooth enamel. Because ceramic crowns are so natural looking, they are an excellent choice for treating front teeth.

Porcelain fused to metal crowns are an important third option for repairing decayed or damaged teeth. Because their porcelain coverings are fused to metal, they are stronger than all-ceramic crowns. In addition, porcelain fused to metal crowns are more cosmetically appealing than metal crowns. For patients whose needs fall somewhere in between metal crowns and ceramic crowns, porcelain fused to metal crowns can be an ideal treatment option.

All 3 types of crowns can be used to anchor dental bridges or dental implant restorations. Your dentist will carefully select the type, size and colour of dental crowns in order to provide results that improve functionality and appearance.

What Are the Advantages of Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns can strengthen and protect teeth while enhancing the appearance of the patient’s smile. Each crown covers and protects the entire surface area of the tooth.

Crowns can eliminate pain and restore strength in teeth that have been seriously injured or damaged and are routinely recommended following any tooth being treated with a root canal.

Another advantage of dental crowns is that they can be placed in as few as 2 office visits. Lastly, dental crowns are long-lasting and can provide outstanding results for years, as long as they are maintained with regular dental hygiene visits and consistent home care.
